Another Wild Day…

17 06 2009

The birds seemed to be having fun at my expense today. I was walking along the river bank (looking for dragon flies actually) and this charming little duck saw me coming. Oh yeah. He had my number. Waited until I was right next to the bush and then did his best impersonation of a very large, angry, snake. “Hiissssssssssssssss!”

Hidden Duck

I’m sure the look on my face was priceless as I staggered (as fast as I could) away from that bush until I could ascertain what had made the noise.

The other geese and ducks looked wonderful swimming lazily around. Bathing. Showing off for each other.

Back at the house a mockingbird landed on the basketball net and was just yelling at me. I have no idea what that was about. Maybe he didn’t like my truck?

On another note; Vin-essa (Short for Vinison) was milling about looking to see if we had gone to Home Depot and purchased any more expensive flowers for her to eat. I guess we need to either spray everything with soap and garlic or buy her food to keep her away from the flowers? – We’ll be chatting up the local gardener for sure.

Thanks for visiting and checking out the Blahg.

Wild Day…

20 05 2009

I had a rather good walk through the park today and found that around every corner there was something to see. Not the usual jogger or biker or someone on a skateboard whizzing down the path. But some rather unique wildlife.
I decided to walk down to a trail that went along the edge of the river and I looked down and there were minnows swimming about – leaves floating down stream – and then this fellow comes swimming along. He was a good 4 and half or so feet long.

Rat Snake

I do believe its a Rat Snake. At least I hope that’s what it is and not a venomous sort of snake because he was swimming downstream towards the park – where kids like to swim.

I walked along side him – snapping away with a long lens (not that I was afraid of him but I was trying to give him his privacy (uh – huh; my story).

I sat quietly and watched him swim downstream. Not a care in the world (except maybe dinner). Then I went on my merry way.

I continue down the trail and found this rather unique dragon fly so I decided to include him in my little adventure.
I guess I like bugs and snakes.Dragon Fly

I then decided on a short cut and passed through the frisbee golf course (sounds like fun but no one was playing at the moment) and happend to surprise this wonderful thing.

Running Deer

By the way he’s jumping over everything he looked like a Kanga-Deer or Deerga-roo or something wonky like that. I sure scared him (must have been the sweat running through my shirt). This was the only ‘clear’ shot I got as he was running and jumping so fast and headed for the trees.

It was a good day. I enjoy walking with my camera. You never know what you’ll see.
I can’t wait till I work more on flying lessons. There will be some GREAT shots there.

Peace, Love, and Deerga-Roo’s,

A Bug’s Life…

22 04 2009

Peek-A-Boo

It’s hard being a bug. Imagine being in a secluded place and making out with your boyfriend or girlfriend and then this gigantic camera lens comes out of nowhere. (Note the look of surprise on the poor butterflies’ face). Your boyfriend then quickley dives behind you so as to not get caught by the offending paparazzi.

Ain’t Hiking Fun!?

Mockingbird Have You Heard?

2 04 2009

I like birds.  Wish I could just fly around and pose for pictures for photographers.  This one decided not to be so shy as I snapped away.  Even seemed to pose.

Mockingbird

Leaves are coming back on the trees. Getting warmer (finally). Wow! Where did the year go?
On another note; On CNN scientists are reporting that the Big Red Spot on Jupiter is shrinking. Hmmm…Must be global warming, eh?
